Urge Drug Manufacturer Gilead to Lower the Cost of Harvoni - Drug to Cure Hep C

Almost 130-150 million people suffer from Hepatitis C. Genotype 1 is the most common strain. A new drug Harvoni manufactured by Gilead has a 90 percent cure rate however the drug is so expensive that insurance companies do not want to pay for it. Harvoni's price is creating obstacles to Hepatitis C treatment. The state medicaid programs and insurance companies are denying treatment except to those that are in stage 3 or 4 fibrosis. You have to be in a critical stage before they will agree to pay. People have been waiting for years for a drug that will cure this deadly disease. It is now here but unfortunately you have to be almost dead to get it. Insurance companies would rather pay for a liver transplant than pay for a drug that can cure a large part of the population.
People are not looking for a handout but what they want is for the drug to be affordable. There is no way a hard working middle class person would be able to pay for this drug which costs $1,000 a pill. Treatment requires 12 weeks. This equates to a total treatment price of $90,000. We are initiating this petition to urge the drug manufacturer Gilead to lower the cost of this drug to make it affordable for everyone. It is not fair to deny treatment that can save millions of lives. We need as many signatures as possible, please sign. We need your help
