Public Meeting

Meeting to inaugurate a Local Protest Group against the threat of 'Fracking' in Skelmersdale

Wedneday 30 July at 7:15pm in Ashurst Community Centre - Keep calm & come along

Did you know there are plans to frack for gas near you?

If you've never heard of it before, Fracking - or hydraulic fracturing - is a destructive and dirty process using a high pressure mix of water, sand & chemicals to blast rocks and release trapped gas and oil. Not only have these chemicals been linked to contamination of Drinking Water, but burning more fossil fuels, like gas, will lead to disaster for our Planet.

Are You concerned about the following?

>Your Water Supply and the Quality of your Drinking Water

>Of the millions of gallons of Water/Toxic Chemicalss pumped into the ground, only 50% comes back out and according to the Environment Agency, it contains Radio Active materials, which would then have to be treated as Hazardous Waste to be shipped away by road tanker

>Significantly increased Heavy Trucks & Tanker traffic on existing minor roads leading to increased noise & air pollution

>Increased air pollution from the practice of Gas Flaring

>Earthquakes - Fracking near Blackpool caused Earthquackes, the cause of which has been confirmed as Fracking by Government

>Property  Values will be reduced if you live near a drilling site / operational well

If this 'Fracking' is allowed to go ahead, we will see the wholesale industrialisation of the British Countryside, with Rural communities being the first affected

If you cannot attend, please write to your MP and your Local Councillors to express your opinions on this Threat to our Health, Water and Landsape. Their email addresses are printed underneath:
