Protect Vermont Animals From Abuse through Animal Cruelty Registry Protection

Animal abuse and cruelty is a never ending issue, including throughout the state of Vermont as stated by the Humane Investigator for the state, Ms. Brown.  In addition to working with the Humane Society, Ms. Brown is also founder of Spring Hill Horse Rescue in Clarendon.  The abuse on animals, including horses, needs to be addressed. Ms. Loring is another Humane Investigator (volunteer) who had witnessed numerous cases of animal neglect and abuse. Vermont has an online and hotline for animal cruelty complaints. Loring is the administrator of that database.  She states that "Vermont Humane Federation in conjunction with law enforcement set up an online cruelty reporting system where there is a lead agency for every county in Vermont where complaints can go into either by phone or online.” It is my hope that Vermont would take further more stringent steps by implementing and enforcing an animal cruelty registry.  An animal cruelty registry would and should be similar in stature to that of a sex offenders and child abusers registry with severe implications.  Anyone who has committed any form of animal abuse, cruelty or neglect would be required to be on the database, with all pertinent personal information. The information therein must be undated on a regular basis with all offenders remaining listed for life.  Furthermore, any abusers on the database need to be banned from ever again owning, caring for or working with animals.  Such stipulations may seem very stringent but it is the only way that we can stand up in the name of animals and give them the protection they need and deserve.

It is highly commendable that Vermont is taking measures to protect animals, starting with educating animal owners on proper care, responsibility and respect.  However, many of the cruelty cases are from people who have no respect or compassion to the needs of animals and consider them objects that do not deserve love and care as living beings.  My effort in this petition is to encourage the state legislators to implement the database that would speak out in the name of poor defenseless animals so they can receive the legal protection they do deserve.  You can help me in my efforts by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments.

Vermont State Legislators – It is highly commendable that you are taking several crucial measures in protecting those without a voice; defenseless animals statewide.  In a critical effort to stop animal abuse and cruelty, I strongly urge you to implement and strictly enforce an animal cruelty registry database as a tool in protecting animals and preventing repeat abuse.  Such a database should be similar in stature to that of a sex offenders and child abusers registry with severe implications.  Anyone who has committed any form of animal abuse, cruelty or neglect would be required to be on the database, with all pertinent personal information. The registry needs to be shared with anyone in the animal and pet industry from shelters, breeders, pet shops, grooming shops and more.  Animal abuse has to stop and the only way is through extreme measures by humans like you who can speak out in their honor.
