Fred was canned hunted, took him 3 hours to die.

Pet and Former Farm Pig Canned Hunted

Target:
United States Attorney Alice H. Martin; Northern District of Alabama
Sponsored by:
Justice For Fred, the Pet and former Farm Pig Who Was Canned Hunted, and left to die for 3 hours.

The circular argument "We can not do enforcement because its not a pet, not wildlife, not slaughtered as a farm animal" is simply unacceptable. This position allows extreme suffering of an animal caused by  willing parties to be openly unpunished --even in plain sight of a disgusted global audience.

Please write to US Attorney Alice H. Martin to ask for justice for Fred, the pig:

Story:

On May 3rd 2007, an eleven year old boy, Jamison Stone, from Pickensville, Alabama,  made international news that spread like wildfire over the Associated Press wire services. The now infamous photograph shows a fresh faced boy kneeling behind a monster-sized pig. The hog was shot in the backwoods with a giant 50 caliber Smith & Wesson hand gun that later turned out to be, like the hunt itself, a hoax.

Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries quickly revealed that it was a farm animal, and not a wild boar, that was shot in the 150 acre low-fence area. It was an overfed pet, and gentle domestic Duroc swine, named Fred.

Alabama's Attorney General, Troy King, reviewed the Monster Pig case said there was too little time for his office to pursue the case before the one year statute of limitations ran out May 3, 2008 following the District Attorney's cancelation. He was also unsure whether or not Alabama animal cruelty laws would be applicable to the killing of a farm animal suddenly transposed into a hunter's quarry.

Pet? Hunting quarry? Farm animal? Who was Fred? Facts support that one time or another he was all three. Authorities, so far, have not drawn the moral line, that the willful participation in the unnecessary slow and painful death of an animal--no matter if it's a pet, prey or agricultural -- is unlawful in the US or the State of Alabama,.

Dr. Melinda Merck, an ASPCA vet pathologist, writes, "Based on the lack of a conclusive kill shot and the prolonged time to die, the cause of death is most likely shock and exsanguinations [bleeding out] primarily from the injuries to the abdominal organs." Dr Yi-Horng Lee, a surgeon, agrees that the abdominal injuries sustained from the ill- placed gun shot wounds "would have caused extreme pain and anxiety for a prolonged period of time."

Now, it is up to Alabama US Attorney of the Northern District, Alice H. Martin. She is the last resort for justice for Fred and the hunting tradition of Alabama.

Thank you for signing the petition . Please also write, call or fax US Attorney's at her office contact information provided.

I don't have a problem with people hunting for food. This story is not hunting...it is abuse. To kill your own pet just to get on the news is cruel and the way he killed it is torture. Someone should investigate the family and their mentally ill son.

To fire 16 shots and only hit your target 9 times is inexcusable. Please have Jamison spend more time at the shooting range practicing, and be sure to stay armed at all times to protect against loonies like the folks who've signed this petition.

Dear Sirs, My name is Robert N., and I am an retired N.Y.P.D. Police Officer, so I am trained and knowledgeable about firearms! It is my Profesional Opinion, that to shoot an animal 14 times with a handgun is Cruel and Savage Behavior, and that what was Inflicted upon this Poor Animal, is nothing less than Pre-Meditated Torture!!! I am Horrified and Disgusted, at what happened to this Animal, and regardless that this animal was not a "cute and cuddly" pet, it was still a Living and Breathing Creature of God, and it did not deserve to be treated in this fashion! I am Happy and Proud to sign whatever Petition, and to give my Support to the most Strenous Criminal Prosecution to the extent of the Law, for the Crime that was visited upon this Animal. exasperated, Robert Nimmo Bobby281@aol.com

Firing 16 rounds of a low-velocity firearm (only 9 hit) at this creature is reprehensible and, frankly, immoral. The manner in which this animal died is the poster child for inhumane. And what did Mr. Stone, or anyone else, gain with this death? 10 minutes of fame!! This is a case where the Attorney General's office has a duty to their constituents to investigate.

Canned hunting is immoral and has nothing to do with sport or "population control". It is only a tool to teach the thrill of violence. Fred should not die in vain-laws to protect pets and ban canned hunts are a must. Even hunters must join this cause as this is nothing short of mental illness on the part of the father teaching his son to be violent. The father did know this was not a wild pig, being a canned animal!I hope we can count on someone to be rational here,as thus far all parties including police, atty gen,usfish/willife are all running from this topic.Wrong is wrong-please take a stand."The only thing for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing" Albert Einstien

I am fine with hunting, but when you hit an animal, you MUST finish the job quickly and humanely. Anything else is cruel. Leaving an animal to suffer for 3 hours is not acceptable.

Hell Yes ! That kid deserves a medal. Next time give him a bigger gun so he can drop his prey a little easier. I hope this kid grows up with the skills that so many kids are lacking these days. Heck, he could follow in Teddy Roosevelt's footsteps and be President one day. This story restores my faith in our youth. Good job DAD in getting your son a world class hog. Hopefully it'll be in the record book.

We should never leave a being of any sort to suffer needlessly. Cruel and inhumane treatment should not go unpunished.

This is horrendous. How can a father support and encourage his son to torture and kill an animal of this stature? It is obvious the swine was unique, having lived a long life, and was not typical "hunting" species. And to then shoot/hunt the animal with the calibre of pistol that made it suffer for hours before eventually dying is beyond comprehension. The father and son should be prosecuted under animal cruelty laws. Jamison may not be old enough to serve time, but he needs to learn respect for animals and not be ignorant of guns or hunting.

I'm not particularly against hunting- done legally and morally right. To take a unknowingly participant, who at that point was a family pet, and to shoot him with a small pistol which caused a slow painful death is unexcusable. Pigs are said to be as intelligent as dogs, this pig must have thought- I don't know what he would think. I would assume he was scared and hurt. It's disgusting and it shows this child that there is no reprimand for killing a living being in an inhumane illegal way. It's wrong.

Someone should shoot the fat "monster kid". At least he will be cursed with that ugly mug his entire life.

Canned hunts are just wrong! What are these parents teaching their child? Using a handgun to kill this animal? This needs to stop.

This is outrageous. This boy and his family are Neanderthals and should be prosecuted for being an embarassment to society as a whole. It shames me to share the same species with them.

It is very sad to see an 11 year old making the news for his cruel behavior. Killing for fun is not to be encouraged, but apparently, being a successful killer will get you on the news... the pride and joy of your supportive family. Indeed very sad, therefore something needs to be done to curb this kind of behavior and to encourage more civilized thinking, advanced thinking, altruist thinking. We do not hear about boys or gils saving animals in distress, or homeless people, or trees and birds, we hear only about beatings and killings generated by teens. I wander why is that? The answer is this story of a killing of this innocent animal, we, the society at large, do not condone the act , but we praise it! We praise a young killer with a gun in his hand! We should be ashamed of ourselves! The pig had a name , Fred, he died in suffering, killed by a young killer that watch him die for three hours only to gloat over his dead body later. I wander what parent he will do, we already know what kind of parents produced him.
