Stop the Use of Anal Exams to Determine Sexual Orientation in Kenya!

  • by: Emily L.

Days ago, a court in Kenya ruled that anal examinations to determine a suspect’s sexual orientation were permissible. This is an unbelievable violation of human rights and essentially amounts to a form of torture. This outrageous practice is used to confirm whether or not someone has engaged in a homosexual act, which is a criminal offense in Kenya that can result in more than 10 years of jail time.

This judgement essentially means that someone could be pulled off the street if they are suspected of being gay and subjected to these tests — a ridiculous waste of resources and a horrifying precedent just to punish people for who they love.

These laws are clearly deeply embedded into Kenya’s culture and courts. If anything will make a difference, it will be international pressure to stop this violation of human dignity.

Please sign this petition today demanding that the Kenyan government take the first step toward decriminalizing homosexuality, and ban the practice of anal examinations immediately!
