The autism journey transitioning for every stage

To develop a wrap-around facility to help families during each stage of the autism journey. Specifically, a special needs center that provides accessible, quality, integrative care for special needs individuals and their families, utilizing a service system that emphasizes trust, respect, dignity, and compassion.
The key to the success of this center is offering the wrap-around therapeutic services, as well as respite care and assisted living for the special needs individual and their family. A few rehabilitative practices in the Houston, Texas, area offer multidisciplinary services (e.g., speech, occupational, and physical therapy) and many offer only one or two services (e.g., ABA therapy or counseling and psychiatry); however, no practice offers wrap-around services in one easily accessible location or assisted living services for the affected individual.

I view transitioning as a fork in the road for individuals with ASD. Specifically, there are some who will be able to further their education, establish employment, live independently, marry, and even raise families. Others will not be able to achieve those steps in life due to their intellectual and/or skill limitations, as special needs parents grow older they want what all parents want for their children – to see them be able to create a life of their own or live in an environment that provides them the peace of mind knowing they are receiving the care, compassion, comfort, and dignity of services for their love ones when making the decision to place them in a new permanent living environment.

Unfortunately, there are no programs designed to provide the quality care and services for the autism adult children who cannot live independent and need assistance with day to day care. I believe our kids should be afforded the opportunity to reside in facilities and enjoy programs similar to those received at senior assisted living and memory loss assisted living facilities. I believe the only way to get those type of opportunities is to establish a model for others to follow, quantity leads to quality just look at growing numbers of the senior assisted living and memory loss assisted living facilities in the area.
