Tell Congress Not to Open Hunting Season on Gray Wolves

Senate and House Republicans are trying to take gray wolves in Minnesota, Wyoming, Wisconsin and Michigan off the endangered species list. The proposal comes in the form of a rider that has been attached to other legislation. It's clearly an effort to sneak this law past an unsuspecting public.

While it is true that protection under the Endangered Species Act has been good to gray wolves, it is also true that an open season on wolves is perfectly capable of decimating their recovery. Farmers and ranchers are twitching to shoot wolves with impunity because wolves occasionally poach unsafeguarded livestock. Farmers need to secure their livestock with fences rather than shooting predators.

Tell the United States Congress to keep gray wolves listed as endangered species!

We the undersigned are outraged to learn that Republicans are trying to delist the gray wolf as an endangered species. Even more outrageous is that this action appears to be hidden in a rider and buried deep within other legislation. The Endangered Species Act has been good to gray wolves, but that is no reason to open season on them. Their recovery should continue without danger of being shot at by farmers and ranchers whose only concern is their bottom line. Please protect America's diversity of species by keeping the gray wolf on the endangered species list.
