Bringing The Attention Back To The Children: SAFETY AND CONCERNS

My seven and five year old daughters were on the way to school this morning August 22nd, 2017 when their bus began to smoke. The children on the bus evacuated and had to wait in a nearby "neighbors" yard and wait on officials to arrive. The bus driver did her job and made sure that the children on the bus evacuated safely and she notified the correct persons that needed to be contacted at that time. The children made it safely to the school about 15-20 minutes late. They arrived safely, however the parents with children involved were not notified of the emergency situation. I feel as though our Brantley County School systems should utilize their resources and make every effort to keep the parents involved in what goes on with our children in their care - on the way to, at, and from school at all times in any emergency situation. The Brantley County Board of Education should make it mandatory to notify parents of any emergency situation. Informing all involved parents of an incident and provide comfort in knowing the situation has been resolved or is being resolved and when it has been resolved. All efforts should be made to notify parents with the automated "text" service that the school systems currently have and utilize when they send out text reminders for school book orders, pictures, T-shirts and other sales... they should utilize the same for emergency situations - ESPECIALLY. This is not the first time something like this has happened and the parents with children involved were not notified. They attended Nahunta Elementary ( I transfered them to a different school in Brantley County hoping for a better school experience overal ) and there was a lock down that consisted of someone escaping from the law - the text service should have been utilized in notifying the parents of the situation and resolution and comfort in their safety should have been provided. Parents should not have had to find out via social media. Please sign if you too are a concerned parent and would like the same notification of your children's safety.
