Transgender People of Color Deserve Fairness--Mya Deserves Justice!!!

This Person accidentally took a wrong turn on March 30 and wound up on the wrong exit of a Fort Meade, Md. parkway, which led to the Baltimore headquarters of the NSA.

The Media portrayed Mya as a "crazy cross-dressing lunatic" looking to cause the Government deliberate harm.

Transgender People of Color are disproportionately treated viciously and unfairly by law enforcement and has been for generations. This practice needs to stop immediately!

Baltimore City State's Attorney

Marilyn Mosby;

We the undersigned, respectfully request further investigation into the following matter.  On March 30, 2015 Mya Hall wasn't looking for trouble when she took a wrong turn on March 30 and wound up on the wrong exit of a Fort Meade, Md. parkway, which led to the Baltimore headquarters of the NSA. But she still wound up dead after security opened fire on her vehicle, apparently causing it to crash into the gates of the compound.    It is commonly known that wrong turns at that particular exit are an extremely frequent occurrence.   Her death was completely unnecessary!  This area is also the site where Miriam Carey, a black mother of an infant child, near the White House in 2013. Carey, with her one year old daughter in the backseat of her car, mistakenly drove into a White House checkpoint. When several Secret Service officers drew weapons on her, she panicked and drove away at speed, prompting a police chase that ended with 8 bullets in her car and Carey slain. Miraculously, the infant was unhurt.

We the undersigned urge you to team with the other law enforcement agencies to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into this matter.  We want you to be aware of these important facts:

  • Transgender people of color were 2.7 times more likely to experience police violence, and 6 times more likely to experience physical violence from the police compared to white cisgender survivors.

  • Transgender women were 4 times more likely to experience police violence compared to overall survivors, and 6 times as likely to experience physical violence when interacting with the police compared to overall survivors.

Marilyn Mosby, America is watching you, the world is watching you; and we, the undersigned will not forget!

Sincerely yours,

R. Gross, et al
