Stop the Porpoise Hunt in Japan: Almost 10,000 Killed in 2010!

This year thousands of Porpoises will be killed in Japan.

Almost everyone has heard of Taiji, the place where thosands of dolphins are killed and trapped for the Marine Park industry.

However, few people know that 500 miles north of Taiji, in Iwate, another hunt takes place every year. Iwate fishermen hunt the Dall's Porpoise, one of the most social of the porpoise species.

Prior to the Tsunami almost 10,000 Dall's Porpoises where killed in the annual hunt. This is almost 10 times as many killings as Taiji!

Last year a small hunt took place and the fishermen of Iwate plan to resume large scale hunting once again. This will lead to thousands of Porpoises being killed every year.

It's time to stop these cruel hunts off the coast of Japan. Stand with the Dall's Porpoise and send a message to Japanese Prime Minister Abe asking him to stop it. No to Iwate!

Dear Prime Minister Abe,

The fishermen of Iwate are planning to resume their annual hunt of the Dalls Porpoise. This animal is one of the most social of the porpoise family, an intelligent creature that should be protected and studied, not hunted for food.

In 2009-2010 almost 10,000 Dalls Porpoises were hunted in this prefecture.

Please intervene and stop the killing of this amazing animal.
