Tell University College London to Pay Support Staff a Living Wage!

  • by: Ann Ward

Students and unions are outraged that support staff for University College London have wages that do not meet the requirements of a living wage! To make bad matters worse, while refusing to give support staff raises, UCL gave their already high earning chancellors raises averaging 8.1%! This double-standard is unacceptable!

Support staff consists of janitors, faculty etc. These hard-working people have not seen a raise in their paychecks for 6 YEARS! They deserve to be treated with dignity and fairness. According to The Guardian the bosses are being greedy:

"On the day that the cost of living crisis has again been highlighted by the leap in rail fares, the university bosses are lining their own substantial pockets, while those staff that keep Britain in the top 10 world university league table struggle to make ends meet."

Please tell the University College of London to give its support staff a raise that is in line with the cost of living!

Dear Professor Michael Arthur:

We (the undersigned) are shocked to learn that even as University College London gave its chancellors an average raise of 8.1% it has failed to acknowledge that its own support staff has not seen a raise in 6 years! Every member of your staff serves a valuable purpose that makes UCL a thriving, well-respected educational institution.

Economic times are hard for many citizens, especially those who do not earn a substantial income even in the best of times. It is wholly unacceptable to demonstrate this level of disregard for your staff members.

Please reconsider UCL's decision to forgo support staff raises.

Respectfully,
