Stop Proposed Legislation that will Weaken the Endangered Species Act

Someone once profoundly stated that....

"We do not inherit land from our parents; we borrow it from our children".

Enjoying nature is one of our most cherished God-given freedoms...and sadly, it is constantly under attack and being lost one piece at a time.

In America, the Republican sector of our Congress is again pushing legislation that is intended to weaken our Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973. Their proposed changes would undermine the well-being of critical wildlife/wildlife habitat...all for the gain of a greedy few!

I have been a Wildlife Biologist for 40 years. The ESA of 1973 was the culmination of a series of federal laws designed to assure that no human entity would be allowed to bring about the extinction of not even one of our beloved wildlife species.

Among all of America's wildlife/habitat conservation laws, the ESA of 1973 is the "Holy Grail".   It is not perfect...but almost so. There are those people who hate the ESA of 1973, but their's is a selfish life. I am certain that today, such legislation would be extremely difficult to impossible to pass through Congress. This is probably because of a growing human population's increasing demand for natural resources, coupled with the ever-present desire for wealth and personal gain by certain interests.  Well, our beloved wildlife/wildlife habitat is not going to be destroyed for either of these. For to do so, would destroy many of us. I am one of those people. That is why I will fight for the ESA to my last breath! This is my planet too!  And frankly, I am fed up with the selfish minority who will destroy our priceless wildlife resources for their greedy gains.  They are my worst enemies.

We will not successfully preserve nature without a fight. Some of us find that this is our calling in life. I am one of those people. Hence my appeal to all Americans, who know in their hearts that they are on the side of what is good and right for all....not for the selfish few. It is critically important to remain diligent against those among us who are intent on destroying the species that are in the way of their selfish lusts.

Without the ESA of 1973, those American entrepreneurs who are non-conservation-sensitive, and totally self-serving could not be stopped from destroying our critical wildlife habitats, resulting in the extirpation of thousands of species from their native habitat and their extinction in the wild. We will never stop protecting our beloved wildlife/wildlife habitat from destruction.

Here is Wiki's description of the ESA:
The Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA; 16 U.S.C. § 1531 et seq.) is one of the few dozens of United States environmental laws passed in the 1970s. Signed into law by President Richard Nixon on December 28, 1973, it was designed to protect critically imperiled species from extinction as a "consequence of economic growth and development untempered by adequate concern and conservation." The U.S. Supreme Court found that "the plain intent of Congress in enacting" the ESA "was to halt and reverse the trend toward species extinction, whatever the cost."[1] The Act is administered by two federal agencies, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Following are excerpted from the Center for Biological Diversity's comments on Congressional Republican's latest attempts to dismantle the ESA:

“In the past four years Republicans have introduced more than 50 bills to weaken the Endangered Species Act and 100 bills going after individual species. Not a single one, though, would help save an endangered plant and animal,” said Brett Hartl, endangered species policy director with the Center for Biological Diversity. “Polls consistently show a majority of Americans, including many Republicans, support protecting endangered species. These kinds of bills may please rich campaign donors – especially those exploiting the planet for profits – but they’re way outside the mainstream.”

The current proposed legislation is worded to make you believe that they are improving the ESA of 1973. This is a lie!

Please sign the petition, asking the Senators and Representatives from your respective States to block the current proposed legislation that is actually designed to allow "developers" to destroy critical wildlife habitat. Tell them....Not no, but hell no!

and Thanks so much for caring!
