Prosecute Hillsborough Disaster police officers for deaths and cover up

On the 15th April 1989, 96 football supporters at Hillsborough stadium were crushed to death in two of the central standing-only pens. 766 more were injured. It was the worst disaster in British sporting history. After the disaster, the pain continued. The police lied. They blamed the visiting Liverpool fans, saying their drinking, being late, and lack of cooperation were to blame.

It took many years and the brave persistence of grieving families and survivors to have the truth recognised. In 2016, a new inquest found that those who died were unlawfully killed due to the failings of South Yorkshire police, and in particular the criminal gross negligence of Ch Supt David Duckenfield, the commanding officer. The false police testimony was finally rejected.

But survivors, including those whose loved ones died or were injurted, have lost years to the unbearable stress of being falsely accused of causing their own trauma and loss. Many were just teenagers at the time of the tragedy and only now have the chance to find peace. Please sign this petition to demand that the IPCC push for prosecution of all those police officers involved in the Hillsborough diasaster and the subsequent devastating cover ups.

Survivor Nick Braley said: "You cannot be responsible for the deaths of 96 people, and instead label innocent victims as being guilty, have police officers telling such lies, without being held to account. We have the truth established, finally. Now we want justice to be done."

The Hillsborough Disaster is one the biggest unhealed wounds in modern British history. Please sign this petition and join us in calling for justice, as last. Tell the IPCC to push for full prosecution of the police officers involved in the disaster and subsequent cover up.

The Independent Police Commission:

The recent findings that the Hillsborough Disaster was a result of police negligence, and that survivors were falsely blamed for the tragedy, is a step towards justice.

Now those responsible need to be held to account. Please ask that the Crown Prosecution Service prosecute those responsible for the deaths and subsequent cover up.
