Naperville WILL NOT be known as the Puppy Mill Outlet Capital of America!

It's simple.  Pet lovers... You have a voice, they don't. Use yours to make this change happen.

4 steps, and approximately 15 minutes of your time and we can MAKE this happen.  You will become the voice of potentially THOUSANDS of poorly treated, dogs and cats in the Naperville area.

Step 1:  If you're not familiar with the news please take a few extra minutes and read: http://www.chicagonow.com/raining-cats-dogs/2014/06/naperville-puppy-mill-outlet-capital/

That's right, WE HAVE A VOICE.  It's time to make ourselves heard.  If you haven't heard already there is yet another pet store; "Happiness is Pets" being opened in the Naperville Crossings Shopping Mall (95th and IL-59).  If this happens, Naperville will be known as the puppy mill outlet capital of THE ENTIRE NATION.

As a former 13 year resident of Naperville from 2000-2013, I'm disgusted.  It's time to bring this onto the radar of Mayor Pradel, and the City Council Members...Fast.

Here's what to do:
Step 1:  Read the article. (Hopefully, you've already done so.)
Step 2:  Sign this petition.
Step 3:  Use your e-mail (Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Comcast, AT&T, etc.); copy and paste the pre-written letter at the end of petition to the following people:  The Mayor of Naperville, and the Naperville City Council Members.  Their e-mail address are listed below.  DONT FORGET TO TYPE YOUR NAME AT THE BOTTOM!!!

[You can simply select and copy the e-mail addresses below and place them into your e-mail's "TO:" section, if you're not very familiar with e-mail.]

Step 4:  SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE IN THE CHICAGOLAND AREA.  The easy ways are:  Facebook, e-mail chains, Twitter or hashtag on Facebook (#AnimalRightsNaperville).  Or if you want to do more:  Write a blog, write the newspapers (Naperville Sun, Aurora Beacon, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times)...  Call Chicago television stations: ABC 7, NBC 5, CBS 2, WGN 9, PBS 11 & 20, Fox 32, Telemundo 44, Univision 66.  YOU CAN HELP!!!

Here's the letter:

A. George Pradel, Mayor
Naperville City Council Members
400 S. Eagle St.
Naperville, IL 60540

To the Elected Officials of the City of Naperville:

As you may or may not be aware, there will be a relocation and expansion of a business: “Happiness is Pets” from their current location at 1592 W. Ogden Ave. to the Naperville Crossings Shopping Mall located on the Northwest corner of State Route 59 and 95th Street.  There is also yet another other dog/cat “resale” store, Petland located at 720 State Route 59 Suite 112.

Recently an article was written that put the City of Naperville in the spotlight in a very bad way.  The article in question can be read at: http://www.chicagonow.com/raining-cats-dogs/2014/06/naperville-puppy-mill-outlet-capital/

While the third store within the article in question happens to be located within the city limits of Aurora; the article has already been written and shared over 6,300 times on Facebook.  The damage to the reputation of the City of Naperville is growing.  Unfortunately, the great City of Naperville now has the stigma of being:  “The puppy mill outlet capital of America.”

We understand that there is a tough economy right now, and the last thing we want is to take away jobs from the city.  This can be avoided.  In the article it states:  “Pet advocates don't want to put Naperville's pet stores out of business. Quite the contrary. Pet lovers would love to see the three stores dealing in puppy mill dogs and kitten mill cats to go humane...to switch to an adoption model with rescue dogs instead of continuing to sell puppies at the expense of the parent dogs left behind in puppy mills...breeding litter after litter. It's one thing to be the pet store capital of America and quite another to be the puppy mill outlet capital.”

It is time to take action banning the “Sale” of dogs and cats within the City of Naperville.

We formally request an addition to the Naperville Code of Ordinances:  TITLE 3 – BUSINESS AND LICENSE REGULATIONS – CHAPTER 6 – RETAIL DEALERS AND ESTABLISHENTS. To be added a newly written ARTICLE B.  Within this newly written ARTICLE B, is an ordinance banning all retail sales of dogs or cats.

Let’s make Naperville a safe place for its furry citizens too.

Sincerely,

A. George Pradel, Mayor
