Jordan: Don't Refuse Palestinians Escaping Syria!

Jordan is refusing Palestinian refugees coming from Syria, or is deporting them, failing to observe international law that forbids sending refugees back to places where their lives are in danger.

Jordan has been practicing this since January 2013, sending over 100 individuals who were able to get into the country back, including women and children. This has led to cases like that of Mahmud Murjan, who just after a couple of weeks back in Syria was killed, his body showing traces of torture by gunmen who invaded his home.

Even Palestinians escaping Syria with Jordanian citizenship are not being welcomed into the country. Jihad Hjouj, who once had Jordanian citizenship, was put into a detention center with around 180 other Palestinians. Some Palestinians have had their Jordanian citizenship taken away from them.

Please tell Jordan to reverse these practices immediately and welcome Palestinians fleeing Jordan instead.

Dear Jordan Government,

Jordan has been barring Palestinian refugees coming from Syria since 2013, sending over 100 people (including women and children) back to a place of great conflict. One case is that of Mahmud Murjan, who after just a few weeks back in Syria was murdered. This is against international law, which bans sending individuals back to places where they are unsafe.

Even those with Jordanian citizenship are not being accepted, and some have even had their citizenship revoked, being put into detention centers and denied opportunities.

Not only is this not in compliance with international law, but it is cruel and inhumane. Please welcome Palestinians fleeing Jordan and stop these practices.

Thank you for your time.
