Demand the Maximum Sentence for this Senseless Cruelty

Roger Rosengren, 64, of Garfield is being charged with one felony count of animal cruelty, which resulted in the death of a pet or companion animal. Please sign my petition to ask for the maximum sentence for this senseless act of cruelty. We need to get the message out that we won’t stand for animal cruelty.

On April 26, Rosengren shot a chocolate lab belonging to his neighbors, Andrew and Brittne Gabrielson. The Gabrielsons discovered their dog, Dakota, breathing heavily at the foot of their stairs. After bringing Dakota to the emergency vet, the dog passed away. An X-ray revealed a pellet embedded in its hind end.

The dog’s owner told the local newspaper “We live approximately 200 yards from this neighbor, who has petted Dakota many times in the past four and half years, and who stated that he knew it was our family dog, known to be friendly. Why? If you knew he was a friendly dog, why would you shoot him? I feel horrible this happened to my dog, and I feel helpless because our pets are our children!”

Rosengren admitted to a Douglas County MN deputy and Dakota’s owners that he shot the dog. The felony count Rosengren is facing could give him a maximum of two years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine. He has been summoned to appear before a judge on June 1 at 10 a.m.

Dear Judges of the Douglas County MN Courts:

Please sentence Roger Rosengren to the maximum sentence for his senseless act of cruelty.  Animal advocates are demanding justice for Dakota.  The word must get out that we will not stand for cruelty to those who cannot speak for themselves.  Thank you for your consideration.
