Please sign and share this petition worldwide in an effort to encourage Congress to boost funding for President Obama’s Plan to reduce wildlife trafficking like the issues that exist in Viet Nam. Laws do exist to protect wildlife but without enforcing those laws, the trafficking will not stop, but with your help through this petition, we can save the wildlife.

In U MINH, Vietnam, so many illegal hunters are draining the country of so many beautiful and necessary animals due to their killing, poaching and trafficking practices. Such is leading to the extinction of many and endangerment of others. Already, the rhinoceroses are already on the extinct list with just a couple of remaining tigers that are endangered. That is not to mention soft-shell turtles and civets. Illegal wildlife is one of the biggest issues in many countries including Vietnam. They play a supreme role.

Not only is Vietnam a major thoroughfare for wildlife bound for other countries by ship, they are also a significant consumer of wildlife. Despite laws against trafficking and poaching, they are not enforced and the killing of wildlife continues. Reports show that in February, the Obama administration has issued a plan to curb illegal wildlife trade by strengthening that crucial enforcement, reducing demand and sending a handful of agents abroad.

Regarding these issues, a Chris Shepherd of the Southeast Asia of Traffic wildlife trade monitoring network states that “Wildlife trade is higher profile now than it’s ever been, and that’s great. But all of the talk about this issue by world leaders is not trickling down to the ground yet.” The New York Times also states that while China recently increased its arrests and prosecutions for wildlife crimes, those caught trafficking wildlife in Vietnam or other transit countries almost always escape punishment.

With your help and support in signing and sharing this petition worldwide, we can encourage Congress to fund & enforce strict laws to protect wildlife in Vietnam. With the new President Obama Plan, extra funding will help in reducing wildlife trafficking while the laws that bans these practices are strictly enforced. Mr. Nguyen Van Thain of Save Vietnam’s Wildlife says that “The problem in Vietnam is that conservation is a new way of thinking,” he said. “Vietnamese people need to learn to take seriously what we have now. We need to take care of our own environment and wildlife if we want it to be around in the future.” Let’s help to protect the environment and wildlife through the efforts of this petition as we speak out!

United States Congress & Save Vietnam Wildlife – Wildlife trafficking is a continual issue affecting Vietnam animal life. We are asking Congress to boost funding and enforce the laws that strictly ban wildlife trafficking and poaching worldwide, especially protecting their existence in Vietnam. Laws are nothing if they are not strictly enforced.
