Stop Killing Foals for Hormone Replacement Drug

The hormone replacement drug, Premarin, comes from the estrogen isolated from the urine of pregnant horses (PREgnant MARes' urINe).

The Bitter Truth about Premarin  (video)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8i4NUNWkBA

For their 11 month pregnancy, mares live in the "pee barns," forced to stand in stalls with urine collection devices strapped to them. The stalls are deliberately narrow to prevent pregnant mares from turning around and detaching the collection cups.

After giving birth, foals are taken away from mares to be sold, whether or not they are fully weaned. The foals born from this industry each year go for slaughter in the horsemeat industry.

The mares quickly become pregnant again, and are back in the barns and the cycle starts again.

Stop the abuse associated with the production of this drug within the pharmecutical and horesmeat industry. Inhumane stall size, not enough access to water, lack of exercise, cruel treatment, the collection system and continuous breeding cycles- all result in premature death for thousands of mares and foals. Synthetic alternatives to Premarin are readily available.
