For the past four years, we as senior members of the Honors College, as well as recipients of Latin and Departmental honors, have worked hard to complete the necessary coursework here at the University of Missouri in order to graduate with honors. Though this is a distinction on its own, one of the most attractive benefits of being a member of the Honors College at the University of Missouri is the opportunity to graduate on the Quad. Though we understand that the weather is sometimes not ideal in May, we feel that the determination of location should be made within days of the ceremony rather than months.
As members of the Honors College and recipients of high academic honors, we humbly request that the Honors College and upper level administration reopen the possibility of graduation on the Quad, dependent on projected weather conditions the week of the ceremony. We believe that the Quad is the ideal location for graduation based on traditions that are long-held and well-cherished among this and future graduating classes, and that our work to earn twenty hours of Honors credit, high GPAs, and departmental recognition should be acknowledged with the assumption that graduation will take place there.
