Save the Muscovy Ducks of Fairfield

Hello Fairfieldians. It has been brought to my attention that our HOA is planning to collect and euthanize many (if not all) of the Muscovy ducks in Fairfield. It sounds like it will be happening soon. Please read the following heartbreaking story. The resident below has spoken with and been brushed off by 3 different members of the HOA. We demand answers before this heartless act happens.
Thanks!

I know the ducks are a controversial topic and many people dislike them. I know some areas are more populated than others when it comes to the Muscovy ducks.

We moved to the Lakes about a year and half ago. My kids love walking around the Lakes feeding the ducks. Last April my daughter rescued two ducklings. I agreed to let her raise them. She took full responsibility of taking care of them. She feed them and cleaned up after them and that's not always an easy job for a 10 year old.

We kept the ducks in the bathtub until it was warm enough to move them outside. They were eventually old enough to turn loose on the Lake. They still come to our yard everyday. They know their name and follow my daughter around like a dog. They eat from her hand, she's able to pick them up and she loves to give them hugs. They sit next to us on the chairs when we are on the patio. I know they are just ducks but to our family they are more than that.

I'm just sad that I may have to explain to my daughter that her ducks were taken and euthanized. I talked to the HOA today and apparently there is nothing that can be done. The guy will more than likely be out this week to gather up the ducks. I was told it cost close to $100 to euthanize each duck. This type of duck can not be relocated and must be euthanized.

Anyone that speaks Spanish that would be willing to talk with Telemundo? They will be out here investigating and listening to both sides of the story. We also need a couple of people that don’t have to speak Spanish that are just passionate about the issue! I understand the need to regulate an “invasive” species if they are causing damage to our neighborhood. But the HOA will not give answers about how and when they are removed and what process of euthanizia is used.
