Tell Congress You Want a Ceiling on Drug Prices!

People in the US are paying more for cancer medications than any other country. Admittedly, Americans might be better able to pay the cost of medications than Nigerians. But many of our fellow developed nations have put policies in place to ensure that no one dies because he can't afford the drugs that would save him. Australia, the United Kingdom, and Israel have government programs that regulate drug pricing and keep meds within the budget of the sick.

We already see some cancer patients in America struggling to pay for their treatment. When patients have to choose between their cancer drugs and paying the rent or the grocery bill, there is a serious problem.

Please join me in asking Congress to create a price review board for all pharmaceuticals that is similar to the Canadian Patented Medicine Prices Review Board. That board determines a maximum price for all drugs. This new review board should be housed within the Consumer Finance Protection Board.

Dear Members of Congress:

It's disturbing to read that America's cancer victims pay more for their medications than any other country on earth. Okay, yes, on average we make more money than in India and are perhaps better able to pay for medications out of our incomes. But most developed countries have systems in place to make sure that no one dies because he can't afford his medications. Australia, Canada, Israel, and the United Kingdom have protected their citizens with price ceilings on drugs. Please create a price review board for all pharmaceuticals that is similar to the Canadian Patented Medicine Prices Review Board and determines a maximum price for all drugs. This review board should be housed within the Consumer Finance Protection Board.
