Oppose Proposed Distribution Center in West Henrietta, NY

We the undersigned residents of the Town of Henrietta would like to express our concern and dismay to the Henrietta Town Board concerning the proposed distribution center project in West Henrietta Village. The location of a busy, 50' tall, 210,000sq ft. commercial enterprise on the proposed site will not only increase traffic flow and noise in a residential area but will significantly impact our historical village and want to preserve this small town community feel.
The proposed project will be in the immediate area of multiple historic properties in the West Henrietta Village area. The New York State Cultural Resource Information System, CRIS, has stated the West Henrietta Village area at the corners of West Henrietta Road & Erie Station Road is eligible for the creation of the NYS West Henrietta Historic District. There are 25 properties deemed eligible by the state in the proposed historic district document. Many of these historic properties are in close proximity or adjacent to the proposed project parcel lot lines.
Today, the immediate surroundings represent a diverse community of residential, community service and houses of worship, with few commercial properties. The four corners area represents a significant part of the history of our town. The surrounding buildings of the proposed site are all 100-150 years old and are the location of some of the earliest development of our town. Henrietta is extremely fortunate that these historic buildings have lasted into the 21st Century.
The historic village of West Henrietta is the last representation of what the early architecture and the atmosphere of Henrietta was like when it became a town and should be protected.
We the residents of Henrietta feel this proposed commercial property project would adversely alter the historic character, cultural landscape and detrimentally impact the history of the entire four corners area of this unique hamlet the West Henrietta Village represent. We urge the Town Board to strongly consider the detrimental effect of this location and recommend a more appropriate site.

Update #13 years ago
The developer has changed his plans once again! There will be a Special Permit hearing on Feb. 24th at the Town Hall to look at the new proposed plans to have a 200,00 Sq. Ft. Building with 496 vehicle spaces, 28 Dock Loading spaces and 27 Tractor Trailer spaces. Still no Tenant mentioned. This will still mean Tractor Trailers driving thru the historic four corners of Erie Station and West Henrietta Roads which is already a hazardous intersection. Please help preserve the historic hamlet!
