FREE USE OF PUBLIC PARKS FOR CHARITY & COMMUNITY EVENTS IN EALING

The Ealing MS Society is a voluntary organisation that raises funds for people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in the Ealing Borough. The branch raises funds to award welfare grants for mobility equipment, respite care, medication etc., and organising social events for branch members - some of whom cannot otherwise leave the house.

We organised a very successful 5k run in Elthorne Park last September, that raised awareness and funds for Ealing MS.

We want to make this an annual event but Ealing Council are making it difficult for us.

For last year’s event, they tried to charge us a small events fee of £550.00 to use the park. We contacted the local MP’s, who helped us reduce it down to £50. But the Council said this was a one-off and this year we would have to pay at least £220, plus a £50 admin charge.

Our argument

The Ealing MS Society is run by volunteers. All the money we raise goes to those that need it. We don’t have the funds to pay for the use of the park – nor should we have to.

The Council claims to support local charitable initiatives, and yet charge hefty fees to voluntary organisations to do so.
