Make Chandler Oals Elementary part of the Stony Point High School Learning Community

RRISD has set up Learning Communities to unite the neighborhoods of Round Rock ISD and give parents, students and campus staff the opportunity to build closer relationships. Learning communities are designed to, as best as possible, represent a child’s potential journey from elementary to secondary education. Currently Chandler Oaks Elementary is part of the Round Rock High School Learning Community, however, they are zoned to attend Stony Point High School. The reasoning given by the district is that Chandler Oaks students attend Walsh middle school, and Walsh is part of the RRHS Learning Community. Approximately 80% of Walsh students attend RRHS with the remaining 20% (Chandler Oaks Students) attend SPHS. These students should be preparing to become SPHS students. A large percentage of Chandler Oaks students end up moving, transferring, or using false addresses in order to go to RRHS because they have not been able to build that connection to Stony Point. It’s a hard transition to make when they are told from Kindergarten on that they will be a RRHS student and then end up a SPHS student. It’s a matter of pride, school spirit, community, and building stronger connections. We are asking for Chandler Oaks to become part of the SPHS Learning Community at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.
