***********************

We, the undersigned residents of the township of Champlain and neighboring regions, hereby express our strong and firm opposition to the Colacem cement plant project on route 17 near the village of   L Orignal, in light of the adverse consequences with respect to the deterioration of the landscape and the air, water and noise pollution that would be caused by the creation and operation of a cement plant. These harmful effects will have a negative impact on the health, quality of life, and safety of our community, as well as leading to the lowering of property values.

We therefore urge the Council of Champlain township to clearly refuse any proposal for a cement plant or heavy and polluting industry of a similar nature and/or in contradiction with the existing zoning, or any expansion of existing heavy and polluting industry in the Champlain Township.

We trust that our elected municipal representatives will abide by the wishes of the population and reflect this in their decisions (and votes) at Council.
