To say I'm disappointed about why the Pope isn't taking a stand and allowing this bishop, who's opinions oppose the very basis of Christianity and are causing a huge rift in realtions between the Roman Catholic Church and the Jewish community, would be an understatement. Does not the Pope's infalibility alow him to overrule any man-made church law and act upon his own conscience and the teachings of Jesus Christ?
Bishop Richard Williamson was one of four bishops that were supporters of the ultra-conservative French archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and part of the Society of St. Pius X excommunicated by Pope John Paul II in 1988. The bishops had been ordained without Vatican permission by the renegade French archbishop, who rejected the reforms of the Second Vatican Council. They have some real radical views and oppose the Second Vatican Council.
Bishop Williamson, also said while he was excommunicated, that the Vatican was controlled by Satan and that the Jews are bent on world domination, and he even reiterated in a broadcast last week on Swedish television that the historical evidence was %u201Chugely against six million having been deliberately gassed in gas chambers as a deliberate policy of Adolf Hitler. I believe there were no gas chambers.%u201D
Pope Benedict stated that he "rehabilated Bishop Williamson and that the excommunication and his comments on the Holocaust" are two seperate issues and don't warrant him not to be reinstated.
