Let veterans use their GI Bill benefits whenever they are able to, not just within 10 years of leaving active duty. This will allow veterans to have a more productive life after military service and will be good for the country. The 10 year limit to the GI Bill does not make sense, it is bad for the veteran, bad for the economy, and bad for the country.

Many retired military are invovled in multiple activities during their transition from the battlefield to the civilian world. I left active duty in 01 and can honestly start to begin focusing on further education. The problem is,I only have 4 years left to attend school part time. Veterans really need a good 20 years to use those educaitonal benefits and the benefits need to extend into vocational and technical trades. Trying to unravel educational institutions who offer service related and G.I. assisted education is like trying to find the log building with the blue shutters in New York City. The time needs to be extended or done away with altogether and the available programs need to all be easily accessed. Isn't the idea to help the Veteran get a job so S/he can pay taxes and become a productive member of society again? It wouldn't hurt to open up more trade and vocational schools either. You make it a mystery to find out how to start getting the money from participating schools. In my experience, most of the VA people at colleges have attitudes and could care less if the Vet knows how to use the benefits or not. More time is paramount and it should be a law to post every participating school so access is easy and information is clear. Why are you trying to save money by putting time limits on the benefit and then making every effort to confuse the vet in hopes that S/he misses out on the enormous benefit?
