SAVE DARFUR!!
The genocide in Darfur has killed more than 400,000 civilians and displaced 2.5 million people from their homes. Darfur is about the size of Texas. Frustrated by shortage and disregard, in February 2003 two Darfurian rebel groups launched a rebellion against the Khartoum government. The government answered with a scorched-earth campaign, arming and bankrolling militias against the innocent civilians of Darfur. A small peackeeping force is in place, but it is too small to stop the genocide. The world needs to help the people in Darfur and stop the genocide. You are the world!
I, alongside people and organizations from around the United States, call on my President and the international community to:
~ Get peacekeepers to Darfur, and help them secure essential equipment.
Less than half of the mandated UNAMID force has been deployed, and the force in Darfur lacks equipment like helicopters, which are critical for transport and security. We must make sure the world retains the polistical will deliver help to the people in Darfur.
~ Urge China to help end the genocide. We must make sure that China recongnizes its responsibility as a rising global power and uses its influence over Sudan to help the people in Darfur.
~ Increase aid levels and ensure access for aid delivery.
Shortfalls in aid mean that poeple are continually at risk of starvation. Humanitarian organizations must have unfettered access to all who need help.
