Studies of sound science show 2/3 of the polar bear population could be gone by 2050, setting them on a sure course of extinction if we do not act to protect them now by listing them as an Endangered Species.
We do not want our tax dollars to go towards protecting special interest groups and their profits. We want out tax dollars to protect our National Heritage and wildlife.
The ice that they depend on is melting and they must swim futher distances between icebergs. A report recently surfaced about a mother polar bear who swam for nine days, nonstop, searching for food for herself and her cub.
The ice is disappearing as is their food supply. Canada continues to hunt seals, depleting the bears food source. In Alaska, fishers harvest more than 4 billion pounds of fish from the area each year.
Polar bears are particularly at risk from one of the worlds deadliest pesticides. Endosulfan is a highly persistent pollutant that accumulates in polar regions and collects in the fats of seals and other polar bear prey.
If that werent enough to endanger the animal, some enjoy the sport of killing the anmial for trophy hunting and making a rug out of it.
Global warming, overfishing, hunting, pesticide poisioning and habitat destruction from the oil industry all spell a very bleak future for the polar bear unless it is listed as Endangered immediately.Additionally, Russia plans to build a nuclear power plant in the Artic.
