Say NO to proposed Beer / Wine tax!!!!!!
Details of the proposed beer tax are described in a Senate Finance Committee document distributed to lawmakers in advance of a closed-door meeting 05/09. Senators are focusing on how to pay for expanding health insurance for an estimated 50 million uninsured Americans, a cost that could range to some $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
Under the proposal, beer taxes would go up by 48 cents a six-pack, from the current 33 cents. Wine taxes would rise by 49 cents per bottle, from the current 21 cents. And the tax on hard liquor would increase by 40 cents per fifth, from the current $2.14. Percentage-wise, wine drinkers would take the biggest hit, a 233 percent tax increase per bottle.
Hard liquor would see the smallest proportional increase, 19 percent per fifth. The beer tax would rise by 145 percent per six-pack.
Proponents of the idea say it would equalize the tax treatment of alcoholic drinks, by charging the same tax rate based on alcohol content.
All i have to say is that this is an outrage! Why should the hardworking, tax paying, INSURED, population take a hit for the well deserved leisure that everyone enjoys responsibly?!? yes, legalize pot and benefit from something that people are gonna buy regardless of price. middleclass working people are sick and tired of paying for everything. Just like the cash for clunkers- who do you think will end up paying all that money back? WE will!!!

Which is why we should legalize and tax marijuanna.. Maybe now all the wine and alcohol drinkers will stand up for making pot legal so that we can get some money back to the country that has been drained dry for all it's resources. Alcohol Drinking; especially Underage Alcohol Drinking, has been the cause of many accidents and deaths in areas all over the world. Each year alcohol kills about 6.5 more kids in the U.S.A. than all other drugs combined. According to the Pacific Institute on Research and Evaluation, about 3,500 deaths per year are caused by drinkers under the age of 21. It breaks down as 1600 kids commit homicide, 1400 kids are in car accidents, 260 kids commit suicide, and the remaining 300 deaths come from drowning, burns, and alcohol overdoses. There are also still those People who drink alcohol all day and walk around abusing people, animals and the planet everyday, yet they’re allowed.. Just as drivers are allowed to talk on their Cell phones or send text messages while driving, so People are Drinking and Driving - talking on the cell or texting and driving, and leading down a road of death and destruction, yet alcohol is not considered illegal and marijuana is. The FDA is run by former Pharmaceutical Companies executives and driving out herbal prevention and remedies for profit. It’s not war on drugs it’s War On Humanity.. Another tax for the midddle class? Wealthy people won't mind or notice the increase -- it's a joke. If our government went after the greedy wealthy elitists and made them pay their fair share of federal taxes on their dividends and investments, and also go after big businesses with off-shore headquarters (Cayman Islands, Dubai), and those greedy U.S. rich people with secret accounts hiding their money overseas to avoid paying the U.S. taxes they owe the country, we would have more than enough money to fund the health care system. It's just common sense. We know the truth, we are not stupid.
