Stop the "INHUMANE" TREATMENT of the Feral cats and Bees in Petaluma

Target:
500,000

Petaluma passed an ordinance back in 2004 to "control" the feral cat population but this method of "control" is not working. Since this ordinance, Petaluma Animal Control has euthanized over 1,500 ferals. It also states in the ordinance that we are to destroy bee hives and their bees.
Please sign this petition so we bring to the City Council's attention that this ordinance is unacceptable and inhumane. Once it is changed, we can start implementing educational programs for the public, a humane trap, spay and neuter, & release program and spay and neuter clinics. Unless we change this ordinance and the "flawed" language, the cycle will continue. Without your signatures, the bees and the ferals have no chance.

I'm writing this in great sadness for the animlas that are routinely being killed. Please, there are other alternatives and many volunteers who would gladly help implement them. How we treat animlas is a reflection of us as a society. Please help don't hurt.

Please implement the TNR program for dealing with the feral cat population. Please be humane. TNR over extermination. I ask you to stop this needless and immense suffering of innocent animals betrayed by society. Please change this inhumane and unacceptable ordinance now. I also ask that the ordinance cease to order the destruction of bee hives and their bees.

Everyone involved with these inhumane methods of animal control are tarnished, and they know it. Please know that there are alternatives that can grant dignity to everyone involved. You can help both animals and people by repealing this ordinance. Thank you.

All animals are important to our society. Ferals are mainly trying to survive in a world where they have been abandoned or cast off to live in the wild. How about TNR and monitoring-this would take no more funding than many of your meetings to discuss what you are going to do about this problem-meanwhile euthanisia/killing the ferals is not the answer-I believe TNR is the answer-Connye E. These creatures deserve a right to live. Please spay & neuter the cats and release back into the wild. And we need bees to pollinate. They dont want to harm humans. Just leave the alone and go about your business. Thanks

I have been working with ferals/homeless cats for over 8 years now. Feral cats become feral because of humans! People do not spay/heuter, dump their cats off when they no longer want them, etc. Killing them is not the answer. Trap, neuter, release is! Cut down on the population and lets get these animals spayed/neutered. Bees, too, have a reason in life. They pollunate flowers which is wny God put them on earth. All animals on this earth are God's creatures. Education to the public about spay/neuter, offer low-cost to those that cannot afford it. I hear all the time "cats can fend for themselves". Well, guess what - they cannot. Please stop this killing!

Please check out what Forgotten Felines in Santa Rosa is doing. Their's is a much more humane and longer lasting solution to the problem. Please be fair to our feline friends. It is not their fault.

There is a better way to deal with this problem. Please listen to the suggestions of folks like, Trap, neuter, return. These animals have feelings and deserve to live. There are alternatives...give them a chance. I know some of you must have pets of your own...how would you feel if one of yours were treated this way? The bees are also a part of creation and have a right to life. There must be an answer...my prayers are going up for the animals...

I have had for years feral cats and they are loving and funny and get sad and feel sorrow as any other companion animal....or for that matter human being...they deserve to live out their lives and not be destoyed by ignorant people who want expediency instead of learning the right and humane way to approach the feral cat situation.

Treating animals with such disrespect is deplorable, all creatures have the right to live, educations and TNR programs are much better alretnatives for feral cat populations. As for destroying bees at this time of crisis for the overall bee propulation in the U.S. shows a lack of respect for the overall health of our world. WAKE UP and smell the roses - oh yeah with out bees there are no roses!!!!!

A Prayer for Animals By Albert Schweitzer Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to sleep. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

We the people brought the problem on we should fix it. Not by taking the easy way out by shooting them. ARE YOU NUTS?

Stop the inhumane treatment of all innocent, helpless cats and kittens. Take the only humane and caring action there is. Be responsible and start a TNR program to control the pet population. This is America. We are supposed to be civilized. Start acting that way. Animals have rights too.

Myself & my former husband, Robert J. Smith, lived in Petaluma after our marriage in 1971. "R. J.", Robert Joseph Smith still lives there and has been there ever since. Their family, Deverty Wallace (R.J.'s wife) and Seair (their daughter) have ,what they call a feral & not so feral cat living with them. I just had to write you this personal note. God bless your efforts!

I wish we could pay more to suppoert this, but we are now retired & both have health problems. Some years ago, we had a small electrical business, which had an ally behind it. One day, we noticed a litter of 4 kittens & we were afraid they would be abandoned. So we tried to catch them, which we did & kept them in a large box, to give them food & water. We cut some holes in the lower part of the box, so they could see us. Finally, we opened the holes, so they could come out. It took awhile, but finally, they ventured out. Soon, we had 4 little kittens, running around. I could write a book about how they were so different, We took them to be neutered & spayed, & they were around for several years. When we closed our business, there was one left, which we brought home to an enclosed area until she got used to her new home. We had her for several years, until she developed cancer in her mouth & eyes & after there was no chance of recovery, we put her to rest. By then, she was 19 years old. Sadly, we really missed her, as she was like a part of the family. She had been an outside kitty, until she got older, so it was even harder. Now, we have a Ferel kitty, who arrived about 5 years ago. We trapped her,to be fixed & we still provide food & water, on top of our tool-shed. She is still wild, but thankfully she isn't a fighter & lets outher cats or animals share her food! I hope someone enjoys my story. Mrs Mescheder

please allow these feral cats to live as there are millions & millions of people, still exploding in population & smaller numbers of them comparatively. the capture, neuter, return is a great way to control the feral cat colonies. the bees are 1 of most efficient helpers of humans. please do all you can to save them as well. i ask for your compassion. regards, cem h. ozkok

We ask that you stop killing these defenseless animalas. We have rescued three of these homeless cats from a no kill shelter. Between shelters like that and organizations that will donate time and facilities to neuter or spay the feral cats, there is really no good reason to kill them. We as human's have allowed the situation to get to this, and we should be the ones to fix it correctly. Please give us the time to get our organizations together and we can make it happen for these beautiful animals.
