Reverse HB2 Now

As a North Carolina resident, I feel cheated and misrepresented by my legislators.

Lawmakers rushed through House Bill 2 in less than 12 hours, which didn't even give their own constituents time to react to the implications.

HB2 makes it illegal for transgendered people to use the bathroom corresponding to the gender that they identify with. The bill also blocks local governments from protecting LGBT rights. It has been called one of the worst anti-LGBT laws in the country.

Since the bill has passed, more than a thousand jobs have been lost and at least 13 conventions have canceled or moved their meetings out of the state.

This bill is not only disgraceful and wholly misguided, but it's also costing citizens of North Carolina millions of dollars in tax money.

If the sponsors of HB2 are not persuaded by the people who are directly affected by this legislation, maybe they will recognize that our state is losing millions of dollars, by people who don't want to associate with backward discriminatory laws.

Tell North Carolina legislators to reverse HB2 now!

Dear Sponsors of HB2,

Since you decided to pass HB2, more than a thousand jobs have been lost and at least 13 conventions have canceled or moved their meetings out of the state.

This bill is not only disgraceful and wholly misguided, but it's also costing good citizens of North Carolina millions of dollars in tax money.

Are you aware that laws already exist to prosecute sexual predators? And that there is absolutely no evidence that bathroom bills are helping prevent sexual predation?

If you're not persuaded by the people who are directly affected by this legislation, I hope you'll notice that your state is losing millions of dollars, by people who don't want to associate with backward discriminatory laws.

Please make this right, so I can have faith in my state again.

Update #17 years ago
The U.S. Justice Department just told Gov. Pat McCrory that HB2 is unconstitutional and violates federal civil rights laws. McCrory has until Monday to respond. Keep the pressure up and tell NC legislators to reverse HB2 now!!
