Texas: Raise Pet Breeding Standards!

  • by: C. Wolverton
  • recipient: Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation
The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation recently decided to reject expert recommendations for improving pet care and housing standards. The commission instead upheld minimal standards established by the Animal Welfare Act. These standards allow breeders to keep dogs and cats in cramped wire cages so small they can barely turn around. The standards also allow painful cage floors made from 100% wire. Some dogs and cats will spend their entire lives in these uncomfortable cages.

The current pet care and housing standards enable cruel breeding facilities called "puppy mills" to continue without penalty. The Texas Humane Network, The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA are all disappointed with the Commission's decision to uphold these low standards. Please sign the petition to convince the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation to raise standards to ensure a comfortable life for all dogs and cats kept in breeding facilities.
