Unity? Prove it: Confirm Obama's pick, Merrick Garland, for the Supreme Court

You know what really peeves Democrats and non-partisans, Senator Schumer?

Republicans spending today saying, "we are all on the same team, we have to come together" after 8 years of saying Obama was a closet Muslim and terrorist sympathizer, who "doesn't have our best interests at heart”. A Republican leadership who wasted the last 8 years on unprecedented obstruction and constitutional vandalism.

But you know what really, really peeves Democratic and non-partisan voters, Senator Schumer?

We'll tell you what. A Democratic Party Leadership that will accept the GOP's claims in favor of conciliation, compromise and unity; a party leadership as willfully naive as the proverbial frog who foolishly believed he could carry the scorpion over the river. At least the frog risked no one's future but his own. You, Senator Schumer, are carrying all our futures on your shoulders.

Unity behind Trump? The Founding Fathers of this country intended a system of checks and balances. We're now facing Trump and Trumpism: Unchecked.

Instead of getting mad, acting naively, or withdrawing from participation altogether, we are urging you to act as a leader. Set up a sober, immediate, clarifying, and agenda-setting test of this new-found Republican plea for good faith.

ACTION: If Republicans are suddenly serious about healing and coming together, they can prove it. Insist they confirm President Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court, Merrick Brian Garland, in the immediate weeks to come.

And let’s be clear, Senator Schumer. For all the talk of coming together to save the system, the system is not working; Accommodating a bully is not healing or healthy; Coming together is not falling into line behind a dangerous and offensive GOP agenda.

Senator Schumer, we call on your to demand Republicans prove their sincerity with regards to coming together by immediately confirming Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court of the United States.

Senator Schumer, let's be clear. If Republicans refuse to confirm Garland, any Democratic leadership which acquiesces to this refusal, and subsequently confirms a new Republican replacement pick in 2017, will likely face a primary challenge.
