Save La Higuera from a devastating mine project!

In La Higuera, Chile, a mine will soon be built. This will bring money to the otherwise not very rich area, giving jobs to the local residents and increasing its development.

It will also bring pollution, extreme disturbance and drastic modifications to the nature around and in La Higuera, that has been used up to now to promote sustainable tourism and low impact practices that seem to work very well.

La Higuera is a biodiversity hotspot and is home to the Humboldt penguin, the Peruvian diving petrel and the marine otter, without mentioning all the other species of plants, microorganisms and vertabrates that will be harmed and put in danger's way but this project. The creation of a 10,000 hectar mine that will extract 12 millions tons of iron concentrate a year is putting all of these species in grave danger.

We ask that the Dominga Mining Port Project be rejected or, at the very least, redesigned to void any risk of pollution or permanent damage to the much-loved and world famous enviornment of La Higuera.
