Please urge Hormel to stop buying pork from pig torturing supplier QPP

The Quality Pork Processors (QPP) Austin plant is a high-speed slaughterhouse, which apparently means that there isn't enough time to treat its pigs humanely. The recent undercover video shot by the Compassion Over Killing investigator working inside QPP appears to show employees beating pigs, slitting the pigs' throats before they have been properly stunned, and dragging pigs who can't stand across the floor by hooks. At one point, a pig still appears to be alive as it is hanging up-side-down from a hook making its way up the production line.

Not only does the video show that the poor animals sent to slaughter inside the QPP plant are treated in the most horrific ways imaginable; it shows things that could seriously threaten the safety of the food coming out of the plant. There are shots of pigs with pus-filled abscesses being sent down the line, while others are covered in feces. At one point, an employee takes a blood-soaked towel and throws it across the line at his co-worker.

QPP is a major supplier of Hormel Foods, the maker of Spam and other popular processed meats. Hormel has responded to the video by requiring more oversight and training in the QPP plants, but that just simply isn't enough. Please sign this petition to urge Hormel to stop buying pork from QPP's Austin plant until their employees stop their cruel and unsafe behavior. Perhaps the threat of financial loss will make QPP change their animal-abusing ways.

In addition to signing this petition, you can also call QPP at (507) 434-6300 and lodge a polite but firm complaint.

To Jeffrey M Ettinger, CEO of Hormel:

The recent undercover video shot by the Compassion Over Killing investigator working inside Quality Pork Processors (QPP) shows employees treating pigs horribly. Animals can be seen shivering in pain and their legs covered in pus-filled abscesses. Some even still appear to be alive as they go down the slaughter line.

The video not only shows horrific animal abuse at the hands of the plant employees, it shows actions that could seriously threaten our food safety.

Please stop buying from QPP until they change their cruel and unsafe behavior at the Austin plant.
