Scotland - Don't Give in to Trump's Bullying on Wind Energy

  • by: Judith B.

Donald Trump’s tantrum over the windfarm which he claimed “would ruin the view” from his golf course in Aberdeenshire continues. This, of course, was a golf course that had itself ruined a pristine part of the Scottish coastline. Irony not being one of Trump’s strengths, the tantrum has been going on for years, and the man is still at it.

He’s just lost a court case to stop development but plans to appeal. In the meantime, he’s threatening to decamp to Ireland. While having large swathes of its countryside turned into Trump attractions might not be good news for Ireland, it isn’t necessarily good news for Scotland either. It looks like a blackmail attempt – a last ditch effort to show that nobody stands up to the Donald and gets away with it.

Back in November, he also tried to interfere with the development of a completely unrelated windfarm, this time in Shetland.

Hopefully, Scotland will have none of this, but you never know. Trump is good at convincing people that his destructive projects will bring economic riches, which to be fair they do - primarily to Trump.

Tell Alex Salmond to completely ignore Trump’s last stabs at bullying.

We the undersigned are pleased that development of the Aberdeen Bay windfarm appears to be going ahead after all, despite concerted efforts from Donald Trump to have the project cancelled. The wind farm, unlike the golf course involved, should provide a genuine economic boost to the area, not to mention supplying us with clean energy.

However, we are still concerned about Mr Trump’s continuing efforts to stop development of this and other windfarms, including plans to appeal the court’s ruling and threats of decamping to Ireland. Naturally, foreign businessmen should not be telling Scotland what to do and what not to do, but this level of determination is still worrying. We request that you not even consider cancelling this or similar projects in the future just because a billionaire is peeved.

We hope to see this windfarm up and running soon and would be delighted if, for once, Trump’s bullying comes to nothing.

Thank you for your attention.
