Pakistan: Enforce Laws to Prevent "Honour" Killings

Amber, a 16 year old Pakistani woman, was found burned to death inside a car after her death was ordered by traditional assembly of elders for helping a friend marry by choice. Murree was only 19 when she was tortured and burned to death for refusing an arranged marriage. These are only two examples the many "honour" killings that happen regularly in Pakistan.

Though "honour" killings are officially illegal in Pakistan, the laws are not often upheld and there are loopholes that allow the murdered off the hook for the death. There needs to be more enforcement of these laws and a removal of any loopholes that would allow the killers to not be accountable for their actions.

The good news is that in March an anti-honour killing bill was passed and is awaiting the approval of the National Assembly.

Sign today to add pressure to the National Assembly in Pakistan to stop "honour" killings in Pakistan. By signing today you are helping to prevent the deaths of countless women all over the country.

To President Mamnoon Hussain,

As a person who is greatly concerned with violence against women I call upon you to immediately enforce the anti-honour killing laws within your country and pass the current bill that would prevent the killer being "forgiven" if the murder was for "honour".

Women have the right to not be murdered for going against a cultural code. They have the right to life and choice and those that murder them for breaking an outdated code of "honour" should be held responsible as murders would in your country.
