Greetings District D Residents,

Please join me Thursday, Nov. 16, at 5:30 p.m. for a community town hall focused on the historic Moulin Rouge casino site. The meeting will take place at the William U. Pearson Community Center at 1625 W. Carey Ave.

Clark County was awarded the property by a District Court judge after submitting a $6.2 million bid for the 15.2-acre site. The County's intention was to locate the offices of the Department of Family Services there, however at the Nov. 7 County Commission meeting, the Board of County Commissioners postponed the approval of the purchase until community input could be sought.

"It is important that we give the community an opportunity to provide their thoughts about how to move forward with this valuable historic piece of property," said Commissioner Weekly whose District includes the location.

The public is invited to offer input about the future of the land at theThursday town hall.

The County Sheriff shut down a prosperous resort in Las Vegas. It was the first racially integrated casino resort in America.  The Historic Westside neighborhood continues to suffer and the government has never supported new development.   Today, the same government that shut it down has outbid several private developers who wanted to create business and jobs! The government plans to destroy black American history, again, and build social service offices! Help us bring jobs and business back to the Historic Westside- We must rebuild the Moulin Rouge.

Update #36 years ago
Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly delayed the vote to hear from the community. Thank him and demand the County rebuild the Moulin Rouge.
