Save Oak Grove Park as Public Park Serving Diverse Community Needs

Hood River County made a staff decision March 23,2017 and decreed Oak Grove park tennis courts off limits for anyone but tennis players. This is against the original intent of a multi purpose park. Pickleball compatiblity with tennis has been proven time and time again. Pickleball should be allowed to share the courts the same way that football, lacrosse, soccer and frisbee play share the baseball field at Oak Grove park. Your tax dollars pay for this park. Restricting its use because some people feel entitled to its exclusive use,  is not only unfair but is not in the best interest of the community. Please let the county commissioners know that you want to see Oak Grove Park tennis courts available to the entire community, including pickleball players. Make Oak Grove park a true multi use park! We need your signature by April 14,2017.

Please support the public access to Oak Grove and Pickleball play on the Oak Grove Courts for the following reasons:

-The Public desires access to community parks designed to cater to diverse needs

- Oak Grove Park tennis courts are currently under utilized; there is no reason to restrict access

-Tennis and Pickleball can easily be played on the same surface

-Many other communities allow tennis and pickleball to share courts

-The 4 Tsuruta tennis courts are dedicated to tennis only, there are at least 6 outdoor tennis courts in Hood River, all with permanent nets, dedicated to tennis.  There are no dedicated Pickleball courts.

-The only safe and realistically playable surface for pickleball in Hood River is Oak Grove

-Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation.  It supports healthy activity for all ages
