Canada: Update your Criminal Code to Ban Newer Models of Semiautomatic Weapons

  • by: Amelia Meister

An internal report from the RCMP has recently discovered that the risk from semiautomatic rifles being converted to automatic weapons has increased over the last 10 years.

The Criminal Code, that governs the sale of these weapons, has not been updated since 1995. Since then, newer models of semi-automatic have come on to the market and they are not covered in the Criminal Code. Many of these weapons are capable of being rigged into fully automatic weapons.

By signing today you are standing for the safety of all Canadians.

More Information:

The previous Conservative government denied the request to close any regulatory gap in the Criminal Code. However, with a new government Canadians have a new opportunity for increased safety in the country.

We need a Canada that is committed to keeping assault rifles off the streets.

By signing today you are sending a strong message to the new government that we need stricter gun control in this country.

We request a update of the Criminal Code of Canada to reflect the changes in the domestic gun market. We understand that a recent internal report from the RCMP has revealed that several semi-automatic weapons on the Canadian market are able to be rigged to be converted into fully automatic weapons.

We are aware that the Criminal Code's regulations around weapons was last updated in 1995 and that newer models have come on the market since 2005 creating a regulatory gap in semi-automtic weapons in this country. We know that it is in the best interest of public safety to update the Criminal Code to include these newer models of semi-automatic rifles.
