Stop the Italian Government from destroying their National Parks!

  • by: Margherita B
  • recipient: Laura Boldrini, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy

In a few days the Italian Government will evaluate changes to a framework law regarding its National Parks. If the changes are approved, four things will happen:

  • the president of a National Park will be chosen politically, without any scientific or environmental qualifications, which opens the position up for those politicans that need to be "recycled" in positions that are percieved as "unimportant"

  • the director of a National Park will not be nominated by the Minister of the Environment, as they are now, but by the president of the National Park. Again, the director will not need to have any pertinent qualifications.

  • the directive board will be composed by local administration (50%), a hunting and fishing rep will be inserted and none of the members of the board will need to have scientific or environmental qualifications.

  • no security measures will be implemented. The traditional and much needed Ranger will not exist anymore, and Italy's National Parks will be unguarded.

These changes will significantly decrease Italy's beautiful National Parks' stronghold and scientific importance. They will become yet another politcally fuelled body run by people with no interest in conservation, environment or the future of Italy's natural heritage.

Please sign to express your anger and preoccupation regarding the upcoming changes, and keep Italy's National Parks safe!

Dear President Boldrini,

I am writing to oppose changes to the framework law regarding Italy's National Parks. These changes will significantly decrease Italy's beautiful National Parks' stronghold and scientific importance. They will become yet another politically fuelled body run by people with no interest in conservation, environment or the future of Italy's natural heritage.

I urge you to keep Italy's National Parks safe and free from political influence.
