Demand Rights for offenders families NOW!

My experience as a relative or family member of an inmate has been very disheartening. On 10/29/16 around 12:30 pm my daughter and I got ready early and headed out for a car ride to the Roxbury correctional facility. Before we left we checked that the image could visit again, we checked the website for changes as well as called the visitation section for any unreported changes. As a family member we are eventually made aware we are not going to get all information on visitation rules until we come and are told we have broken them. The website does not hold all information for us to be able to relay on either. This is a factor the staff is very aware off. This particular day going about all I had to ensure no issues I promised my daughter she could see her father finally after over two years. We were done going through all the processes of getting to the inmate and just told we were waiting on him to arrive. Then we were ask to come back to the counter and handed my ID and a paper to fill out and told we would not be seeing the inmate today. At a loss and shocked I asked why. A new system has been added that checks back grounds and if in ten years you have had any charge you are told to leave fill out a paper mail it wait for response and if approved to return then.
All inmates make a visitation list and they are not told of this either. That list is not prechecked for the background information before we are approved as visitors. As well as the information is not privlidged to the family of inmates until they are asked to leave, as in my case.
Why the family of is not taken into consideration. For example travel, I myself drove eith a excited six year old for two and a half hours just to get there money, time, and gas I do not have was used. Single mothers older parents and more spend a lot on these trips. The emotions of these families are not respected or thought of as you wait a while and are in immense anxiousness they have in seeing a loved one they had taken for their lives.
The families of are hurting probably more then the inmate. They do not think it an issue for them that the families are not told or informed on any of the rule changes that could affect their entry to the facility.
My time money and feelings are not a factor they care to respect or acknowledge, In turn we are treated as suspects or criminals before we have done anything or entered the visitation room. In no way should it be a surprise to over ten people I was shown just that hour to a rule as we do not know all they went through to get there. I was told it had been a rule for two years now. So as I had not been able to visit just that long too how is it not yet made onto the website or mentioned on my call when stated it had been two years and asking for any and all information able to provide?
My daughter was hysterical saying I broke my promise , which I had without my permission, her father didn't want to see her she said which is more hurtful to her then anyone as she can't understand how we could travel so far and not see him we must have been told to leave by him. Which is not fair to her and the cops are mean cause if daddy asked them if he can please see me will they let him and the answer is no. My child may forever feel a anger towards cops over a sotuation in the directors control.
The families are not on the list of things to take care of or prevent incidents to. That is not an issue they care to take in this prison. As I decided to call the shift commander and was very upset as my daughter was crying in the back ground and he stated it has been a rule and online I said it was not and he said I thought it was. I in turn rechecked it in fact is not in the past two years not once did these people getting turned away become a issue to them. The pain in my daughters eyes did not even pain them a little. Actually on the phone with the shift commander I stated "I just can't believe it is not made known to family members or inmates as the person hurt most is my daughter next to me bawling not the inmate in his cell continuing with his day or me who has to go on as I've had to everyday for the past four years but the innocent heart that was just crushed and how she processes that we won't know. I was hung up on at that point and no I was not angry I had a sob in my voice but I guess they have heard it all before and it does not phase them the slightest.
This disregard to images families is blatant as there are victim services available but nothing at all for us. Not even updates on protocol and rules and regulations are provided to us. This humiliation and crimson action of and lack of common decency or respect for members of society working just as hard making just as much and just as important as every employee, victim and other members involved.

Offenders families deserve to be thought of aknowledged so they can preplan and provided with all information available twenty four seven as well as considered when issues arise. At all times that should be the norm.
I refuse to accept the lower standards if any stall for the offenders families and no one should not have the right to information. If it could affect my entry I should be able to read it as a rule and provided a copy online to prefill out or told of this when asked. In no way should this entry requirement be a secret to which I am not told till I am affected and in no way should I be hung up on when trying to prevent my exit as I drove two and a half hours and my daughter is broken up by it. No concern empathy or a knowledge ment of any care at all towards my pain as if it's normal to family's of offenders and THAT has to stop.

All information should be provided online and on phone calls to make sure all information to prevent exiting a member from a visit should be available accessible at all times. As well as a one time entry noted as that rule was not received by a family member should always be granted. Why it is not made a check of every person on a visit list before it is approved to avoid this I'm at a loss.

This insure we are allowed to know a rule before we are punished for it as well as prevent the prison knowingly allowing the information from being received. I'm not potitionong the actual rule or process but the ability to receive the information always that affects entry to visits and reactions of the prison when it was not followed due to any reason the first time they are told by staff. If it is noted the member go the paper of requirements or a verbal warning they then next time can be told no entry. My right to that information is important and many think so as well. If they have signed this petition they have the same feeling of the disregard the prison mentioned, hargerstown Roxbury correctional institution has placed family's of inmates in on a daily basis.

Larry Hogan on the paper given to people denied access that states they understand the importance of a visit. But we are denied information to stop us from being denied a visit. Our criminal history or our past decide if we are worthy to be a visitor. Something we can't change, not who we are or how much we contribute to society daily but what I did when I was eighteen. This paper can also givethe warden a decision on our right. Our right to visit an inmate though having done nothing for over seven years even can be denied? Well I don't know how many people that affects but Mr Hogan I hope can tell us what the requirements are because when asking the on staff on the phone I previously mentioned he had no answer but only the warden can make that decision. So as many people I saw on there just today I'm guessing I will not hear an answer for a while as the warden has to be doing these daily and unless he finds it important to him I'm sure it's not a rushed process.

My tears, child's tears and all the families you have carelessly denied visits with their loved ones tears are important whether they choose to ignore them or not.  Our past is not a indicator of worthiness of a visit but what I am doing now that makes you feel I'm a risk to your security. A citizen, or family member of an imate may be a small person in your eyes whom means nothing to your day but when you see thousands of names I'll make sure they are all big enough for you to not glance over and to take seriously. This new "process" is unjust and a very cruel way to go about a process which I think is very obvious.  I'm shocked the governor sides on the approval of this act in jails and has chosen to again find another way to criminalize the family of inmates as now it's my past I have to stress about whether the warden thinks me worthy.  I feel my right to visit a inmate with visitations available when I'm following all rules and some has been violated, we go to court some serve time.  I thought they paid their dues to society and earned the right at another chance but not according to the Maryland Governor and the Warden at Roxbury correctional institution.
