Demand the Queensland Government Bans all CSG Operations to Save the Environment

A scientific report that examines methane emissions in the Condamine River in Queensland, Australia, has found that the release of the gasses could rise significantly with continued coal seam gas (CSG) operations, according to a report on abc.net.au.

The report states, " the continued depressurisation of coal seams, combined with groundwater extraction by industry and landholders, "could significantly increase gas releases from weak or porous zones such as the Condamine River" in southern Queensland."

Methane is one of the most potent of all greenhouse gasses. Conservationists have warned "that unmeasured methane leaks from unconventional gas fields could cause Australia to fail its Paris climate commitments."

Furthermore, nearby landowners are concerned about the effect the gas has on water supplies, and subsequently, human and animal health.

Moreover, there is a seeming lack of environmental impact research of CSG to gauge the long term effects on the environment, as well as human and animal health. As a consequence, all CSG operations must be halted until the impacts are clear.

Will you join me in urging the Queensland Government to ban all CSG operations to protect the environment. Please sign and share the petition.
