Leeds City Council are set to increase emissions not reduce them!

LCC recently launched a survey as part of the Big Leeds Climate Conservation. The survey contains many brilliant ideas about how LCC could help individuals and businesses reduce their carbon footprint in order to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. BUT the survey doesn't even mention three huge developments being planned which are set to increase emissions massively and destroy wildlife in and around the city. This makes it hard to believe LCC are really serious about tackling climate change. The developments are:

The planned expansion to Leeds Bradford Airport, with its extra roads, more traffic and more flights.

HS2 (which is already hugely delayed and over budget), which will destroy acres of irreplaceable ancient woodland and wildlife reserves and create more traffic for years whilst it is being built.

East Leeds Orbital Road, which is again set to destroy acres of woodland and green space and will only encourage more traffic at a time when LCC need to be discouraging the use of cars and encouraging commuters onto public transport.

Instead of pouring millions into these harmful, short sighted developments, LCC should be improving public transport links, upgrading all buses to clean energy, building more and better cycle lanes, championing the upgrade of local and national train services to green energy and working to become front runners in the renewable technologies manufacturing industry in order to create thousands of jobs for local people.

Please sign this petition to show LCC that unless they oppose the airport expansion, HS2 and the ELOR they are condemning our city to a terrible future.
