Don't Let the Greek Crisis Leave Animals Behind!

As the crisis continues in Greece more and more animals are abandoned each day. Feeding pets, taking them to the vet, any type of basic care has now gone beyond the budget of many Greek citizens. Of course, there are no excuses for abandoning a member of your family, but for many individuals it has come to this. Money is more difficult to come by as banks and financial establishments set limits on withdrawals. And because of this people do not want to take responsibility for their pets. Rising numbers of stray cats roam around the cities and islands searching for food. Many of these cats are not neutered or spayed, only adding to the existing problem. Unfortunately, individuals are not the only ones who face issues in their current situation.

Zookeepers endure hard times as food and dietary supplement purchases become more difficult to finance. The Zoo in Athens is home to a wide variety of animals, but their well-being is threatened by existing conditions of the country. Foreign exporters are hesitant to send necessary dietary supplements into Greece despite long-term relationships with the zoo. For some of these species it is a matter of life or death! The Greek government must make an effort and be responsible for these animals lives.

Please sign to raise awareness that the Greek citizens are not the only ones struggling through this crisis, but the helpless animals that are abandoned each day. Stand up so that the animals of the Athens zoo are not abandoned as well.
