WINNIPEG CAN'T WAIT! WE NEED STIMULANT-SPECIFIC ADDICTIONS CARE AND CRISIS RESPONSE ASAP!

With every passing day, a new news story surfaces around lack of resources for those addicted to methamphetamine in Winnipeg. Meth has taken Manitoba by storm in the last five years, and we are needlessly losing people on account of lengthy wait times, unaffordable care, hospital protocol, and deplorable detox conditions. We need to make a change now! Pricey places like Aurora Treatment Centre in Gimli will act FAST for a hefty FEE, reinforcing the terrible belief that one must be rich in order to get well. Tamarack in Winnipeg expects a client to fully detoxed before entering the program. And, the Main Street Project puts vulnerable persons at even greater risk, on account of insufficient staffing, delapateded facilities, poor employee treatment, and zero budget.

WINNIPEG NEEDS A SAFE, COMFORTABLE, CLEAN, AND THERAPEUTICALLY ADEPT OPTION (FOR BOTH MEN *AND* WOMEN) NOW!

THERE NEEDS TO BE:
- Doctors and nurses
- Social workers and counsellor
- Harm reduction professionals
- clean, warm beds; showers
- nourishing food and snacks
- group therapy and one-on-one motivational interviewing work
- case planning
- follow up care
- future treatment referral

Those who are suffering are PEOPLE! They are someone's child, someone's parent, someone's sibling, someone's classmate. They sit next to us at the bus stop, and rummage through our backyards and garages NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE BAD PEOPLE, but because they are sick, they are lost, and we've turned our backs on them.

Let's turn back around, look this human rights issue square in the face, and work together to find a solution. We pour money into city repair every spring, let's finally start putting our city's cents where it belongs. Into PEOPLE, not POT HOLES.

Please sign this petition, and put an end to the inhumane treatment of deeply hurting human beings who just need a second (or third, or forth) chance.
