We demand better streets, sewage system and Drainage System/maintance

September 20, 2018

In the City of Dickinson, Texas, we, the residents, are concerned about the Streets, Sewage & Drainage systems & ditches.  At a population of approx. 20,000 people living here, are concerns are the poor, undrivable streets, the poor drainage system, the over grown & clustered drainage ditches as well as all smaller ditches (which they are clogged, blocked, full of debris, trees, trash). Many of us residents have invested our life savings in buying our homes here in Dickinson, Texas.

However, life here has been challenging due to the lack of proper roads for our everyday commuting, the drinking water due to poor sewage systems and the drainage system. Several of our roads in the residential neighbor hoods have not been maintained in several years and are full of washed out areas & are damaging our vehicles. Emergency responders are not able to make it to our homes in an adequate time due to these poor road conditions.

The sewage system has always over flowed during small rain storms but has become worse since Hurricane Harvey. When we take showers and the water smells like pure sewage water, or try brushing your teeth and smelling sewage, much less drinking it, cooking with it and so forth. This is not suitable for any human being as well as our animals. This is unhealthy to all of us and we would like to see a better sewage system be in affect to provide us with healthier drinking water.

For many years with the population of approx. 20,000 people, we have been paying a drainage fee of about $48.00 a year up until Hurricane Harvey, they the City raised the fee to $78.00 a year, but, City of Dickinson has no drainage system department. Therefore, we the citizens of Dickinson, Texas would like to know like to know where all that money went? What was it spent on? Our drainage ditches have not been maintained in several years, some residents say theirs have not been touched in 15 years! The ditches are full of trees that have fallen, debris of all kinds, old coverts that apparently washed out from somewhere and the dirty that has washed away from people's property and is now filling up the ditches and blocking flow. All these issues lead to disaster! Dickinson residents whom have lived here most or all their lives can tell you that we have never flooded like we did during Hurricane Harvey, but due to the ditches not being maintained, lack of CITY of DICKINSON maintaining our roads, sewage and drainage system, we flooded severely. We need immediate attention to these issues from the City as it is their job to fix these issues and take care of us we reside in the town.
