Save the Wild Beaver from Extinction

Please sign and share this petition worldwide in an effort to encourage the UK to take measures that will protect and save the wild beavers from endangerment and extinction. European laws are trying to remove these animals from their natural habitats, which could put their existence in danger. We would like to encourage the country to capture and transport the beavers to a designated protective "natural range" area where they could be safe!

The government of the UK wants to capture wild beavers from the river in Devon where they currently exist, putting them in danger of extinction. It has been centuries that these animals have lived naturally in the wild and the government is trying to interfere with their natural life. Under law, these animals should be a protected species. However, they want to remove them from their habitat and place them in zoos or wildlife parks!

A spokesperson in favor of caring for these animals states “Beavers belong in England. Beavers bring huge benefits to the environment, reducing flooding and boosting fish stocks and biodiversity. Rather than try and get rid of them, we should be thrilled to have them back in our landscape. The government needs to listen to what local people are saying, instead of taking a knee-jerk response. This is a fantastic opportunity to study the return of a beautiful and iconic creature. The government says it needs to remove these beavers because of the threat of disease, but that’s just an excuse. They are very unlikely to be carrying infection. In any case they could be easily tested and returned to the river.”

Trapping these beavers is lawful because they have not been an “established part” of British wildlife for 500 years. The UK needs to ensure that the wild beaver is allowed to live in a protected area that continues to enhance the environment and protect it from extinction! They do not belong in zoos but should be allowed to live in designated areas within their natural habitat!
