Demand an End to the Violation of Women's Rights

Despite the number of Organizations working towards Women’s rights, the rights of women continue to be violated and abused to this day by both men and women around the world, whether it is family, government, or society. To this day, women are being mutilated of their genitals. An incidence of such cruel practice took place in the spring of 2007 in Somalia the World Vision Magazine reports. The 7 year old girl was held down against her will by 5 women on the table when the process took place. She was told by the woman that it was a tradition of entering adulthood practised for generations. The circumcision of the clitoris and stitching of the vagina can cause pain, infections, childbirth complications, infertility, and possibly death. Another barbaric violation of women’s rights disguised as a so called tradition is forced prostitution. In India, temple prostitution is a major issue in terms of sex slavery which is known as a religious tradition. Out of the 20 to 30 million prostitutes in India, a large amount has joined unwillingly because they were forced into it because of the strong social hierarchy. In certain poor Indian castes, girls are shoved into prostitution by their mothers at a very young age. Another violation of women’s rights are forced abortions in China because of the family planning laws violate a women’s right of giving birth. A 23 year old became pregnant with her second child and was arrested seven months into her pregnancy as well as charged a whopping amount of $6,000 in fines. Since the family was unable to pay the amount, she was injected to kill her baby. Surprisingly, this occurred on July, 2013, only 2 years ago. As you can see women are being stripped of their rights to this day and ironically the people who should be helping them are the ones causing it.
I feel that the cruel and barbaric acts against women are sick and should be stopped immediately. To be honest I don’t fully understand why such things happen in our world but they do and something should be done about them. Although special organizations such as the ones I explained earlier, are working to help and stop the violation of women’s rights, I believe change begins in one’s mind. I believe if we begin to think of all humans as equal creatures made of the same substance, then equality between women and men wouldn’t even be questioned. Most of the abuse towards women has to do with consent and choice or lack thereof. Rape, forced abortion, forced prostitution, and other forced violence towards women are unwanted. It seems like common sense to not do something if a person doesn’t want to and is very simple when thought out yet most people are just beginning to grasp the idea. This just goes to show how much women’s choices and opinions are valued in our society, not much at all, but they should matter just as much as any mans. The rights of women should not be questioned rather embraced to ensure the safety and happiness of girls and women all across the world.
